Why do most people root for the underdog?
Firstly, for people who don't know who an underdog is, it's a kind of person, that seems weaker or almost powerless in comparison with seemingly stronger and overall more powerful person. For most of the time, the vast majority of people will notice almost instantly who the underdog is, when showed two people standing next to each other, but as we all know - appearances can be misleading.
In my opinion, there are more than several reasons to why people usually root for the underdog. First of all a lot of people can relate to being an underdog, because most of us had at least one situation in which we felt worse or didn't think that we could manage to complete some kind of task or challenge, while being compared to another person.
A lot of people also like to experience being right about the less possible outcome. For example, average person will be happier when someone that they rooted for seemed weaker and won, then when the person that they voted for gave the impression of being stronger and won. Being right about something that's obvious will never be as satisfying as being right about something that seems to be almost impossible.
