Does music education lead to better test scores?

Yesterday, while browsing through the internet, I stumbled upon an interesting data regarding the relevance between SATs and musical education. According to this data from "The College Board", in 2015, students who took four years of arts and music classes while in high school scored an average of 92 points higher on their SATs than students who took only one-half year or less. For me, this information was captivating enough to immerse myself into finding how it actually works. II found out that regular music education helps our brain get used to faster information absorbing. But it doesn't necessarily mean that it'll work for everyone. It depends on how long has a certain person been involved in music education. For example, according to Gouzouasis and his co-authors "the children who learned to play a musical instrument for many years, and were now playing in high school band and orchestra, were the equivalent of about one academic year ahead of their peers with regard to their English, mathematics and science skills, as measured by their exam grades". So to sum up, musical education can really pay off in a bigger picture perspective of our lives.
